Privacy Policy

Effective October 15, 2026. Version 2.

Pest Agent (pestagent.ca) is operated by 9491-0510 QUEBEC INC. ("Pest Agent", "we"). This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, who receives it, where it is kept, for how long, and your rights. It follows Québec's Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector (as amended by Law 25) and Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

What we collect and why

When you ask for a quote

You can ask for a free quote from our quote tool, from a city or company page, or from our quote page. We collect:

• the pest you have a problem with;
• the city you chose, or the fact that you chose "Another city";
• the company you picked, if you picked one, and its rank in our ranking at that moment;
• your name, your phone number and your postal code;
• the page you sent the request from;
• your consent: that you ticked the box, the date and time, and the version of the consent text you saw.

We use this information for one purpose only: to handle your request. That means sending it to one pest control company so it can contact you about your problem, and contacting you ourselves if something is missing. If you picked a company, your request goes to that company. If you did not pick one (for example with "Another city" or our quote page), we send it to the top ranked company of the city you chose or, if you did not choose one of our cities, of the nearest city covered by Pest Agent, if that city is within 30 km of your postal code. If no city we cover is within 30 km, we do not forward your request and we delete it.

We do not use your request for newsletters, surveys or marketing, we do not sell it, and we do not use it to build a profile of you. We ask for your consent with a checkbox before you send the form. Without it, the request is not sent and nothing is kept.

We do not record your IP address or your browser type with your request. To protect the form against abuse, our host reads your IP address to limit the number of requests sent in a few minutes; this check is kept in memory only and erased within 10 minutes.

When you browse the site

Analytics cookies, only if you accept them. We use Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics to measure how the site is used: pages viewed, clicks on buttons and phone numbers, approximate location (city level), type of device and browser. These cookies are off unless you click Accept analytics on our cookie banner. You can change your choice at any time with Cookie settings at the bottom of every page; if you refuse after accepting, we delete the Google Analytics cookies set by our site. We never send your name, phone number, postal code or the details of your request to Google Analytics. Google signals and advertising features are off.

Maps, only if you click. Company pages can show a Google Maps map. The map is not loaded until you click Show the map. When it loads, your browser connects to Google, which receives your IP address and may set its own cookies, under Google's privacy policy (policies.google.com/privacy). You can use the Open in Google Maps link instead.

Technical data. Like any website, our host (Vercel) receives your IP address and browser information to deliver the pages and keep the site secure. It keeps this in short-lived server logs. We do not use these logs to identify visitors.

When you write to us

If you write to hello@pestagent.ca, we use your message and email address to answer you, and keep them up to 12 months after our last exchange.

About businesses listed in our directory

Our company pages use public business information: business name, address, phone, website, opening hours, Google rating, number of reviews and recent reviews, mainly from Google Maps. We read reviews to write our own summaries. We never quote or republish them and never show reviewer names; the raw review data is kept privately and used only for these summaries. Some businesses are run by one person under their own name, which can be personal information. A business can ask us to correct a factual error: corrections are made at the next update, the same way for every business. We do not remove a business from a ranking on request, except a business that has closed, or the personal information of a sole proprietor (for example a home address or a personal phone number), which is removed or replaced on request. Who receives your information

• One pest control company: the one you picked or, if you did not pick one, the top ranked company determined as explained above. It receives your request so it can contact you, and only for that purpose. It is responsible for the copy it receives. We send your request to one company only.
• Our service providers, which store or carry information for us under written agreements and only on our instructions:
• • Supabase: database where requests are stored;
  • Vercel: website hosting and the server that receives the form;
  • Google: email and a private spreadsheet used to handle requests (Google Workspace), Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager (only if you accept analytics cookies), Google Maps (only if you click Show the map).
• Authorities, only when the law requires it.

Some companies on our pages pay for a Verified partner card. This never changes our ranking, and these cards are always labelled Sponsored. "Verified" means only that the business is active on Google and rated 4.0 or higher on 10 or more Google reviews, as checked on the date shown on the card; it does not mean that we checked a licence, insurance, prices or the quality of the work. Verified partner cards do not receive quote requests from our forms.

Where your information is kept

Our service providers keep information outside Québec, in the United States: our database in the western United States, our website servers in the eastern United States, and Google in its data centres. Before sending information outside Québec, we assessed the protection it receives, as Québec law requires (section 17), and we rely on written agreements with these providers. Information kept in another country can be accessed by that country's courts and authorities under its laws.

How long we keep it

• Quote requests: 12 months after you send them, then deleted from our database, our spreadsheet and our mailboxes. The company that received your request keeps its own copy under its own policy.
• Analytics data in Google Analytics: 14 months.
• Your cookie choice: 12 months, then we ask again.
• Messages sent to hello@pestagent.ca: 12 months after our last exchange.

Your rights

You can ask us:

• to see the personal information we hold about you, and how it was used and shared;
• to correct it if it is wrong or incomplete;
• to withdraw your consent and have your request deleted; if your request was already sent to a company, we tell that company;
• to receive the information you gave us in a structured, commonly used format.

Write to hello@pestagent.ca. We may ask you to confirm your identity (for example by giving the phone number used in the request). We answer within 30 days, free of charge.

If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec (cai.gouv.qc.ca) or to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (priv.gc.ca).

Security

Requests are kept in a database that only the people who handle them can access, with individual logins. They are never available through our public website or API. Data travels encrypted (HTTPS). If an incident involving your information creates a risk of serious harm, we will tell you and the Commission d'accès à l'information, and keep a record of it, as the law requires.

Children

Our quote forms are meant for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 14. If you think a child sent us a request, write to hello@pestagent.ca and we will delete it.

How we manage personal information

• The person in charge named above approves this policy and every change to it.
• Only the people who handle requests have access to them.
• Requests are deleted after 12 months, as described above.
• Complaints about how we handle personal information are sent to hello@pestagent.ca; the person in charge answers within 30 days.
• Before we launch a new form or a new system that uses personal information, we assess its privacy risks.

Changes to this policy

Each version is dated and numbered. We publish material changes on this page before they apply, and we ask for your consent again if we want to use your information for a new purpose.
